Paving the way for biobased materials

As Invest-NL we promote innovation and enable financing for companies and projects that accelerate the transition to a circular economy. An important part of this is the proper use of the materials available to us, and the development of sustainable alternatives. In this context, we support the development and introduction of environmentally friendly, biobased, and biodegradable materials.

PHAs are one of the most promising materials and thus play an important role in the circular economy. The big question is: how do you ensure that these materials reach the market? To answer this, it is important to discover in what way and in what kind of products the material can be used. Wageningen University & Research has investigated this on behalf of Invest-NL for various PHAs. This way, the producer knows what developments their material needs to undergo, the entrepreneur discovers which bio-based materials can be used in their products, and the #investor can identify the growth opportunities for this material.
