Invest-NL is making a follow-up investment in The Protein Brewery as part of a Series B extension of over € 18 million. The funding supports the company's next growth phase: scaling up production, further commercialisation, and expansion across Europe.
The Protein Brewery is developing Fermotein, a food ingredient based on fermentation. The ingredient is flavourless and colourless and suitable for applications including sports nutrition, baked goods, and alternative dairy products.
The total financing round amounts to € 18.2 million and is led by the ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund. Alongside Invest-NL, other existing shareholders are also investing, including Novo Holdings and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM). This provides The Protein Brewery with additional momentum to expand production capacity, accelerate commercial growth in Europe, and continue building the scientific foundation of their product Fermotein.
For Invest-NL, this is a logical next step. The Protein Brewery demonstrates that its technology and team are developing, whilst also strengthening its commercial foundation. The company has made progress in production, secured sales for 2026, and is working towards further roll-out in Europe.
“The Netherlands has long been at the forefront of sustainable food solutions, and The Protein Brewery is setting a new standard in the protein transition. It’s exactly the kind of company we want to see thriving within the growing food innovation ecosystem in the Netherlands, with a team capable of building a scalable global business. That is something we support with pride,” says Daan Meijer, investment manager at Invest-NL.
With this follow-up investment, Invest-NL is supporting a Dutch company working towards a more sustainable food system and making important steps now in scaling and market access. The Protein Brewery is a prime example of this.
