Invest-NL, together with co-lead investor Innovation Industries, has led a financing round of $ 40 million in EFFECT Photonics, an Eindhoven based photonics company. In addition to both lead investors, other existing investors also participated in the funding round. Invest-NL was already a small shareholder in the company, but with the additional investment of € 15 million, it significantly increases its position.
The investment is made through its Deep Tech Fund that Invest-NL has started together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Following the investment in LioniX International earlier this year, EFFECT Photonics is the second investment done by this Deep Tech Fund.
With the investment, EFFECT Photonics is able to accelerate the product development and go-to-market initiatives of their photonic light chips for the telecom sector. “We’re thankful to Invest-NL, Innovation Industries, and our other existing investors for their continued support and confidence in EFFECT Photonics mission and products,” said Roberto Marcoccia, CEO, EFFECT Photonics. “This investment positions us well to advance our portfolio of integrated optic solutions for the future of communications.”
Gert-Jan Vaessen, fund manager Deep Tech Fund at Invest-NL: “Our Deep Tech Fund originated from the idea to bring companies with innovative, complex technology that offer solutions to societal challenges to the next level. The investment in EFFECT Photonics fits in perfectly with this mission. In addition, management is well focused on future developments and has positioned EFFECT Photonics as a tier-one business partner. We are very pleased that, together with the other shareholders, we can continue our efforts to enable this company to grow further.”
