Market study on waste streams for sustainable gas

July 6, 2023
Invest-NL BD, in collaboration with Gasunie and SCW Systems, has commissioned a feedstock study on gasification, which aims to assess the potential of feedstock (raw materials) for this transition technology. The study focuses on non-recyclable waste and residual streams, as they are considered the most sustainable according to the sustainability framework. The study has demonstrated that the Netherlands has sufficient availability of biogenic residual streams to produce 1.5 billion cubic meters of green gas. Additionally, up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of circular gas can be produced from non-biogenic waste and residual streams. The study clearly indicates that both streams are necessary to meet the Dutch government's green gas ambition. The theoretical potential identified in the study is 4 to 6 billion cubic meters of sustainable gas production: 1.5 billion cubic meters of green gas and 4.5 billion cubic meters of circular gas.
