Exploration of scaling up financing for nature restoration

Nature restoration is essential for a resilient Dutch economy, but its financing is lagging behind. Despite available public funds and a willingness to invest privately, investable structures, scale and sustainable revenue models are often lacking.

In this exploration, Invest-NL examines which financial barriers are hindering the scaling up of nature restoration and which potential solutions could help. The report shows how area-based land transition, new revenue models and a nature restoration transition fund, among other measures, could make nature restoration financeable and scalable. 

In view of our current role, Invest-NL is currently unable to contribute sufficiently to addressing this market failure around nature restoration. We will therefore not pursue this further at this time.
